The Bishop of Savannah has delegated lay persons to assist the priest distributing Holy Communion whenever there is a large number of communicants. These men and women should have a deep devotion to the Eucharist and are trained in the proper distribution of this sacred, spiritual food. Each minister must be 18 years of age, confirmed and in good standing (attend Sunday Mass and holy days of obligation and receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation regularly). If married, the marriage must be recognized by the Catholic Church.
Membership is a privilege granted by the Pastor. |
Lectors proclaim the Word of God at Mass by reading the Scripture readings other than the Gospel. Being a lector nourishes one's personal and spiritual growth as well as promotes a keen awareness of the sacredness of the Mass. The gift needed for this ministry is confidence and a clear speaking voice before large groups. Training classes are held periodically throughout the year.

This ministry helps in preparing the sanctuary for weekly and daily Masses. It includes setting the liturgical books, preparing all sacred vessels and setting sound and lights.

Altar Servers are respectful and reverent assistants that take honor in serving the Lord at Mass. Boys and girls, 4th grade and up, are eligible to participate as altar servers. They may continue to serve through high school and college. After completion of training sessions, which are usually offered twice a year, they serve at Sunday Masses and at special liturgies, as well as for weddings and funerals. A commitment of once or twice a month is required.
