Catholic Sisters Coming to Tybee for Evangelization Week Oct 1-7, 2024
I am very excited to welcome Mother Olga Yaqob and six of her sisters in The Daughters of Mary of Nazareth. Mother Olga is originally from Iraq but was invited by Cardinal Sean O’Malley to come to Boston some 15 years ago to begin a new community of Sisters. I have been friends with Mother Olga for many years, and we have given several retreats together. Most recently, she was in the diocese of Savannah this past June where she gave the retreat at our Call to Holiness camp for young girls.
I have invited Mother Olga to come for a combination Evangelization week and Parish mission October 1-7. During the days, the Sisters will be going door to door here on Tybee, just to tell people about Jesus and to welcome them to St. Michael Catholic Church. We will give each family a small bag with a bible, holy water, pamphlets on how to pray, how to have faith, etc. We will be looking for parishioners who will go with the sisters in different groups, so that we can knock on every door on Tybee Island! That will be our goal.
In the evenings, the Sisters will lead different events in the Church. Mother Olga is a nationally sought speaker on the Catholic circuit, most recently speaking at the National Eucharistic Congress. The schedule is still under construction, but we hope to have a mission night, a night of adoration, a night for the children and a healing service. Please block out these dates on your calendar so that you can attend as many nights as you can.
I had Mother Olga come to Savannah when I was pastor at Blessed Sacrament a few years back, and the people really loved her. I am sure that you will also!
