The BIG STORY this week for our faith community is that Franklin Pierce and Madelyn Gale Williams will be celebrating the Sacrament of Matrimony this Sunday. This is the first time in years that two practicing young Adult Catholics have celebrated their wedding in our church. We pray that their marriage will bloom and flourish as a sign of God’s love in and for our parish, for Tybee, and for the world!
Thank you, Maddy and Franklin, for sharing your wedding day with the Church and for your witness of faith as you begin this wonderful new stage of your lives. Congratulations!!!
I forgot to promote the Catholic Relief Services Collection last weekend. It is never too late as an act of Lenten Almsgiving to place your CRS envelope in the offertory basket. Catholic Relief Services is a manifestation of love for our brothers and sisters around the globe by the Catholic community of the United States. We protect, defend and advance human life around the world by directly meeting basic needs and advocating solutions to injustice.
In 2018, 93% of CRS revenue was spent on programs that benefit the poor overseas in more than 100 countries. About 35% percent of CRS programming focuses on emergency relief and recovery. Once CRS agents meet immediate needs for food, water, and shelter, they transition to rebuilding and reconstruction, supporting the survivors of natural disasters and chronic emergencies.
As we head towards the end of Lent, you’ll want to return your contributions from the CRS Rice Bowl program to the offertory. It will help those responsible for counting the offertory if you’d count the money in your Rice Bowl and write a check with the note “Rice Bowl” on the memo line. It is hard for our volunteers to process a lot of change. Thanks
For most Christians, next week — Holy Week — is the most important week of the year. Holy Week culminates in the Paschal Triduum, the three days commemorating the crucifixion, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Celebrating the Paschal Triduum well is the whole reason for Lent. We prepare for this event with 40 days of fasting, prayer, and alms giving. Please mark your calendars now so that you’ll be committed in your mind and spirit to be a part of these very special liturgies, the most important liturgies of the entire year.
