Irene Mary Ragan was a woman of faith who was blessed in so many ways and blessed so many others with that faith. As my mother she blessed me with the gift of life and with the gift of faith which I pray will lead to eternal life. She was such an awesome Mom.
We pray this day for all the awesome women who have loved us and who in loving us have given us new life. God our Creator, we pray: For new mothers, coming to terms with new responsibility;
For expectant mothers, wondering and waiting;
For those who are tired, stressed or depressed;
For those who struggle to balance the tasks of work and family;
For those who are unable to feed their children due to poverty;
For those whose children have physical, mental or emotional disabilities;
For those who raise children on their own;
For those who have lost a child;
For those who care for the children of others;
For those whose children have left home;
And for those whose desire to be a mother has not been fulfilled.
Bless all mothers, that their love may be deep and tender, and that they may lead their children to know and do what is good, living not for themselves alone, but for God and for others. Amen.
Hope you can join your fellow parishioners for a “two for” deal. We are planning to meet at Church at 5:30 on Wednesday for a May Crowning, which is a traditional Roman Catholic ritual held during the month of May. It is a solemn procession and at the close of the procession a statue of the Blessed Virgin is crowned with flowers honoring Mary as “the Queen of May.” There is a special honor attached to being chosen to crown the statue. And our School for Disciples members have chosen Laurie Levy for this honor.
Then we’ll head to the American Legion Post for the second half of the “two for” deal as we celebrate the 6pm crowning of our own Amorette Zittrauer as Queen of the Beach Bum Parade. There couldn’t have been a more fantastic choice. Amorette, we’re so proud of you. It’s going to be a fun Wednesday. Hope y’all can join us. It’s going to be fun!!!
On the Way Home: In the Gospel Jesus said, “My sheep hear my voice.” Discuss how you do. Maybe in your heart? Or in homilies, or in the poor, or in people around you? In books, poems, nature? Any of the above? All of the above?
