I am so very grateful to my dear friend, Fr. David Arnoldt for covering the Masses this weekend and next as I head off on pilgrimage in the footsteps of St. Paul. I am sure y’all will behave and welcome him back. He’s been gone too long.
As I won’t be around to nag you over the next two Sundays, I’d ask you to pay attention to the above dates. Our gathering in faith and friendship is key to deepening our awareness that we are truly the Body of Christ, making Christ present here on Tybee. The Mass on the Pier is such a joyful occasion and a great moment of evangelization as we worship our God in the public square. Bishop Boland will be the celebrant. Mark your calendars and plan to stay for lunch. $10 lunch tickets will be on sale the next two weekends.
The Southern Cross collection is this weekend, and we are still pushing the next couple of weeks to have a good finish to the Box of Joy campaign. I hate “nickel and diming” folks but the timing of Ian hitting our shores and causing such great destruction was somewhat unpredictable. We’re blessed that it didn’t hit our shore, but our survivors guilt impels us to help those who’s shores literally shores got destroyed. There’s so many who need our help. Thanks for whatever you can do.
In response to the devastation caused by Hurricane Ian, between now and November 1, 2022, the Diocese of Savannah will be accepting donations on behalf of Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Venice in southwest Florida, where the storm had the greatest impact. 100% of funds collected will be earmarked for Emergency Relief Services (nutrition and housing) for those affected. A Disaster Relief donation link has been added to the Diocese of Savannah website at www.diosav.org. Donations by check may be sent to: Catholic Pastoral Center Attn: Disaster Relief 170 E. Victory Drive Savannah, GA 31404
We’ll also have special envelopes in the pews the next couple of weeks, which you can place in the offertory basket.
PRAYER God of hope and mercy, we lift up to you all victims of natural disasters and those responding with assistance and aid. Protect all who are in any form of danger; provide practical help to those in need; strengthen the weary, console the grieving, heal the suffering; and bless those engaged in disaster relief efforts with safety and courage. Help all people of good will respond with compassion and generous hearts. Amen. (From: Catholic Charities USA)
On the Way Home: Thinking about today’s Gospel, when it comes to showing gratitude, are you more like the one who returned or the nine who didn’t? Whom do you need to thank for what they’ve done for you?
