Special Event on the Feast of Saint Joseph the Worker
Churchyard Concert and Pizza Party Honoring the Workers of Tybee Featuring the Music of Ezer Starting at 7:30pm
This is the Year of St. Joseph during which the Church is remembering the special role St. Joseph played in the history of Salvation as the foster father of Jesus. Joseph understood the importance of work. He was a carpenter—a builder—and probably taught Jesus his trade. To foster deep devotion to Saint Joseph among Catholics, and in response to the “May Day” celebrations for workers sponsored by Communists, Pope Pius XII instituted the feast of Saint Joseph the Worker in 1955. In his encyclical Laborem Exercens, St. John Paul II stated: “the Church considers it her task always to call attention to the dignity and rights of those who work.” So, our Faith Community would like to call attention to the exceptional job that so many workers have done here on Tybee during this pandemic. If you’re friends of any of these workers (Tybee Market and Ocean Rescue folks especially), please invite them to join you for the Churchyard concert on Saturday at 7:30pm. There will be cheap beer and wine and pretty good pizza for them to enjoy while listening to the great music of Ryan and Tasha Beke.
