This past week, thirteen of our Diocese of Savannah junior priests spent several days here on Tybee. Junior priests, defined as those ordained five years and less, are required to meet together once a year to talk about the specific issues that affect young priests, to pray together, to have continuing education conferences and to go to the beach! I was happy to be able to host these young priests, who were staying in the diocesan house, the parish apartment and the rectory. A special thank you to all the ladies who generously prepared some of the meals and made these young priests feel very welcome!
I will be away this coming week, Nov 13-17, in Orlando, Florida giving a retreat to about 35 priests from around the U.S. This particular retreat is entitled The Theology of the Body Retreat for Priests, as it examines the spirituality of the diocesan priest through the lens of the Theology of the Body of Pope St. John Paul II. I have given this particular retreat many times and I have always returned renewed and inspired in my own life as a priest.
Please remember all of these priests in your prayers. There are nearly 38,000 Catholic priests in the U.S. alone and over 400,000 in the world! In my experience, these priests are by and large truly holy, generous men who love the Lord and want to care for God’s people.
