Whiskey and the Word Wednesday, June 15th at 8pm | Churchyard
Family Corpus Christi Procession Sunday, June 19th at the end of the 11am Mass Process to the Churchyard | Hot Dog Picnic afterwards
This year on Corpus Christi, the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ, which is next Sunday, the Bishops of the United States will begin a three-year period called the Eucharistic Revival during which we are all called to reflect, deepen, and reaffirm our belief in the Holy Eucharist. While 70% of those who attend Mass weekly believe in the True Presence (unfortunate to see 30% unbelieving), only 25% of youth who attend Mass every Sunday believed in the True Presence vs Eucharist as symbol.
To kick off this Eucharistic Revival in our parish we will On Corpus Christi Sunday, which falls on Father’s Day, an outdoor Eucharistic procession is planned around the block to the churchyard after the 11am Mass. The beauty of a procession is that it deepens our awareness that our Lord is present with us. And so, we are called to draw closer to Him. Being together, united with other believers, adoring our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament is so powerful. Plus, we’ll have a little hot dog picnic afterwards – good fun!
Whiskey and the Word is a fun little idea that Tony Brandt shared during the Parish Mission. He has a bunch of friends in Wichita who get together on a regular basis to sip a little whiskey and share the Word of God. It is a relaxed way to deepen male spirituality. Since it is a weeknight, we’ll keep the official program to one hour. Keith O’Rourke will bring a special bourbon that he’s been crafting, and I’ll bring the Word. Y’all bring yourselves. And if you’re not a whiskey drinker, come anyway. We are not planning on a lot of heavy drinking, but designated drivers are always welcome.
June 12 | Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity | by the Faithful Disciple Prv 8:22-31 | Rom 5:1-5 | Jn 16:12-15 GROW: St. Paul gives us four words to live by: “Hope does not disappoint.” Today, as we celebrate the solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity, we are reminded of the source of our hope: God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, described by Pope Francis as “a communion of love.” As St. Paul writes, “the love of God has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us.” This doesn’t mean our lives won’t be without difficulties, but St. Paul is assuring us that we do not face them alone. As Jesus tells the disciples in today’s Gospel, “when he comes, the Spirit of truth, he will guide you to all truth.” As we move into our week and whatever the near future holds, we can rest assured the Holy Spirit will guide us and strengthen us. GO: It’s graduation season! When my oldest son received his college diploma last weekend, I felt overwhelmed with gratitude and excitement for what lies ahead for him. As is the case for many students, his path to a degree was not straight (nor was it paved with straight A’s). Yet here he was, receiving his degree and planning to start a job in a field he loves just two days later. The worries I felt during his high school and early college days dissipated, replaced with a sense of gratitude – and hope. This experience and others like it remind me to bring my worries and concerns to prayer, knowing that Jesus walks beside me and those I love. We can witness to our faith by offering to pray for others facing uncertainties and challenges, and by sharing how we have experienced “peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.” PRAY: Pray the Sign of the Cross, reflecting on the love of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. How have we experienced that love and how can we share it?
