Did you know that last year on the Feast of Corpus Christi, June 19, 2022, the U.S. Bishops initiated a move towards a Eucharistic Revival. The hope is to inspire a movement of Catholics across the United States who are healed, converted, formed, and unified by an encounter with Jesus in the Eucharist-and who are then sent out on mission "for the life of the world." The first year invited diocesan staff, bishops, and priests to what Pope Francis has described as "a renewed personal encounter with Jesus Christ"-particularly the transforming power and mercy of Jesus in the Holy Eucharist.
The second phase which begins on June 11th, again the Feast of Corpus Christi, moves the focus of the Revival to the parish level. Our call as parishioners is to foster a eucharistic devotion in our Faith Community that will strengthen our liturgical life through eucharistic adoration, missions, resources, preaching, and the movement of the Holy Spirit. The hope of our local efforts is to help convert hearts and minds to fall more deeply in love with Jesus Christ, truly present in the Holy Eucharist.
The highlight of the Revival will take place in Indianapolis from July 17 - 21, 2024 for a National Eucharistic Congress when more than 80,000 Catholics of all ages will gather to worship our Risen Lord. It will be a time for all of us to reconsecrate ourselves to the source and summit of our faith. And from the Congress in 2024 through Pentecost of 2025, the entire American Church will be sent on mission to share the gift of our Eucharistic Lord with their local communities and beyond.
Lent has always offered an opportunity for a Eucharistic Revival as one of the best practices in Lent is to try to attend Mass during the week as often as possible. There was a day last week when we had three dozen people attend Mass on a weekday. I was thrilled. I'd hope to keep our own little Eucharistic Revival going throughout Lent. So, if you haven't done very much to enrich your spiritual life this Lent, or even if you have, we'd sure love you to join us at daily Mass.
One of the things that I've found to be very enriching this Lent is an exploration of two Catholic apps. I started by listening to Pray40 on the Hallow app but found its focus on the Imitation of
Christ to be a little too negative for me. But as I explored other features of the app, I found Jeff Cavin's daily reflections on the Mass readings to be very good. And I've also been exploring the Formed app which the Parish subscribes to and on it for my walks this week I'll be listening to The Trails of St. Patrick which is an engaging audio drama that retells the heroic life of St. Patrick. Again, if you've not done much to enrich your spiritual life this Lent, now is the time to commit.
Monday, March 13th marks the 10th anniversary of Pope Francis' election. People all over the world will offer ten Hail Mary's for his intentions. Let's join them.
